NFL Betting – The Reason Special Teams Do Not Factor In To NFL Betting Systems

While the majority of sports betting online NFL systems focus on the offensive and defensive numbers that teams register throughout the course of the season, the majority of them don’t consider the special teams. This may seem strange considering the affect that special teams units can have on the outcome of a game, and the way that coaches preach their importance, but this isn’t an oversight by those in charge. Instead, the price per head bookies realize the inconsistencies that these units face, and the lack of direct correlation between entire special teams’ performances and overall success.

Consider that special teams envelopes kickoffs, punts, return units for both, and field goal kicking. While a team may be good at one or two of these areas, they could be exactly the opposite in the rest of them, which is why it is hard to give them a definite value. At the same time, even teams that succeed in certain areas don’t necessarily experience the same success overall when it comes to winning. Teams that rank near the top of the league in field goal conversions may still rank in the bottom third of the league, while teams that have trouble kicking field goals may very well still be in playoff contention. The more reliable factors such as offense, defense, and coaching are usually given the greatest importance along with turnovers and home field advantage, not taking away from the importance of special teams, but instead not factoring them in to the system in order to avoid giving them an enhanced role in the outcome of the betting contests.

NFL Betting – Identifying The Most Important Defensive Stats For Betting Systems

When it comes to creating your own NFL online betting system, there are three important defensive statistics that should be included above any others. As important as passing yards allowed, rushing yards allowed, and total points allowed are all significant to the outcome of the game, an easier way to factor in their importance is to use the defensive points allowed per 100 yards, turnovers forced, and third down conversion percentage.

Of these three sports betting sites statistics, the most difficult to calculate is the points allowed per 100 yards. Basically, this number is designed to measure how good a team is at stopping the opponent from scoring, even if they give up yards. In order to calculate this stat you must take the total number of yards a team defense has allowed and divide it by 100, and then take that value and divide it in to the total number of points that the team has allowed. This will produce a single digit that provides better insight to a team’s ability to defend, factoring in such things as penalties and consistency over the course of more than one game. Another important stat that the initial formula doesn’t completely take in to account is turnovers, and the ability for certain defenses to be able to force them. Teams that allow more yards than others but don’t allow as many points are usually better at forcing turnovers and taking the ball away. A quick look at the teams with the best records in the NFL from any of the past 10 years illustrates how important turnover ratio is, so it should always be factored in. One final stat to consider is a defense’s ability to make a stop on third down. So often the ability to get off the field can come down to making a key stop on third down, and the defense’s with the best third-down numbers usually rank among the best overall, making it another crucial stat that the pay head bookies’ systems always consider.

NFL Betting – Breaking Down The Statistics Every NFL System Must Include

When it comes to the available statistics for the NFL, there aren’t quite as many as in baseball (and thank goodness for that), but there are enough to become confused about which ones are relevant and which ones are not when creating your own NFL betting system. Individual tackles and dropped passes are important to the outcome of the game, but they cannot be regards on the same level as a quarterback’s average passing yards, or a running back’s total yards from scrimmage. When it comes to creating your own football sports betting system, always make sure that you include quarterback passing yards as the key individual player statistic, as well as offensive yards per game, turnovers, time of possession, and total defense for team numbers.

Now more than ever the NFL is about the quarterback position, and the pay head bookies have taken notice of how important their numbers are to the outcome of the games that they play in. Whenever there are two somewhat evenly matched teams, it is the option with the better quarterback that will be considered the favorite. The total yards that the offense a quarterback runs is another key stat, as is the time of possession, but perhaps the most important is the turnover number. More often than not turnovers are the difference between a win and a loss, and they must always be taken in to consideration. A quick look at the numbers from last year are proof of the importance of turnovers, with the San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers, and Detroit Lions finishing in the top-three in the NFC for that category, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Redskins finished in the bottom-three.
